Grimsby otter nicknamed Rudolf after a pond-filter red nose – vets call him spicy
A young otter found in a pond after a fishing mishap near a filter arrived at Grimsby Vets for Pets with a bright red nose. Staff nicknamed him Rudolf and called him spicy; the nose should heal without treatment before Devon rehab.

A young otter under a year old has become Grimsby’s most spicy patient – and picked up a Christmas nickname into the bargain.
According to Grimsby Live (Coreena Ford, 3 Nov 2026), he was found in a pond after an ill-advised fishing trip and is believed to have ventured too close to a pond filter. Cleethorpes Wildlife Rescue brought him to Grimsby Vets for Pets – their first otter patient – where a bright red nose earned him the nickname Rudolf. The injury was minor and should heal without treatment.

Because he was wild and feisty, vets examined him under sedation. Practice owner Dr Agata Tiszler said: “Rudolf was small, determined and very clear that he did not want to be examined. We described him as ‘spicy’.”

Rudolf is now heading to the UK otter rehabilitation centre in Devon. Spot Gaz, our gorilla mascot, in the send-off below.

Red nose, spicy attitude, Devon-bound: Rudolf has already outdone most Christmas specials.
