About the Gorilla Gazette
Who runs the Gorilla Gazette, what we cover, how we check every story against real reporting and how we label our AI illustrations.
The Gorilla Gazette is a home for funny, weird and frankly baffling news. Daft crimes, councils tying themselves in knots, signposts pointing to the wrong county, science that sounds made up but isn’t – if it made us say “hang on, what?”, it belongs here.
Who we are
The Gazette is an independent publication based in England. It was founded and is run by Joshua Goodall, who edits every story before it goes live. We’re small on purpose: no press releases, no paid-for stories, just the oddest true stories from Britain and around the world, rounded up and retold in plain British English.
You’ll also find us daily on TikTok, Instagram and Facebook at @gorillagazette.
Real stories, never made up
Everything we publish is real. Every story starts with reporting from an established news organisation – think the BBC, the Guardian, Reuters, AP, Sky News, the Standard or a reputable local paper – and every article links clearly to that original source so you can read more. We don’t publish satire, we don’t invent quotes, and we steer clear of stories where the joke would be on someone who’s been genuinely hurt.
What we add is the write-up: short, original and told with a straight-ish face. Our editorial policy explains exactly how we choose, check and correct stories.
What we cover
- Crime-ish – heists and misdemeanours that are more baffling than menacing.
- Britain – wonky signs, parking fiascos and the gloriously odd goings-on of these islands.
- World – strange goings-on from every corner of the globe.
- Weird Science – real research and discoveries that sound like they shouldn’t be true.
- Animals and Video – the creatures and clips you need to see to believe.
About our pictures
We don’t use other outlets’ news photographs. Our images are either freely licensed photos (usually from Wikimedia Commons, credited on every article) or illustrations we make ourselves, many of them with AI tools. AI illustrations are always labelled “AI illustration” in the caption and credit, and they never show the real people in a story. Where an image isn’t of the actual person, animal, object or place, the caption says so.
Why the gorilla?
He’s our mascot, Gaz. He hides in some of our illustrations – see if you can spot him.
