Bramfield donkeys leave PC Lye's uniform covered in slobber

Two adventurous donkeys wandered near Bramfield in Suffolk in the early hours. Officers rounded them up with their best donkey-wrangling skills – and PC Lye's uniform took the only casualties: slobber marks.

Some 999 calls are for burglars. This one was for donkeys.

In the early hours near Bramfield, close to Halesworth in Suffolk at the end of October 2026, the public reported two loose “adventurous” donkeys on the wander. Suffolk Police turned up with what a spokesman cheerfully called “their best donkey wrangling skills”.

The pair were rounded up and returned to their owner. No injuries to the donkeys – or to any other animals. The only casualty of the incident? PC Lye’s uniform, which suffered some slobber-related marks during the rescue.

Police thanked the public for reporting promptly – good news for the animals and for anyone else using the roads that night. Next time you spot an adventurous donkey near Bramfield, maybe pack a towel for the plod.
