Balsall Common Jaguar crashes through butcher's shop – staff leap onto the chopping block
A Jaguar E-Pace crashed through the front of Eric Lyons Butchers in Balsall Common just after midday. Staff leapt onto the chopping block; nobody was hurt. The shop is closed until January.

Just after midday on Wednesday, Station Road in Balsall Common got an uninvited delivery.
A Jaguar E-Pace – the make named by the Mirror and SWNS; the BBC called it a vehicle – appeared to be attempting to park outside Eric Lyons Butchers, then lurched forward through the plate-glass frontage. Sausages, steaks and chops went flying. Nick Lyons said the car went through about 90% of the shop front.

Two staff behind the counter leapt up onto the wooden chopping block. A customer was in the back-right of the shop. Nobody was hurt. West Midlands Ambulance assessed a woman and discharged her at the scene. Two people in the vehicle freed themselves before fire crews arrived; two engines attended.

The family-run butcher’s – dating back to the 1800s, with shops also in Knowle, Bentley Heath and Codsall – had only reopened on Monday after about two weeks of refurbishment. It will stay closed for repairs until January; Christmas orders and deliveries are unaffected.
“So I reckon 80% of the shop someone would have been critically injured, or if not, worse,” Nick Lyons said. “So yeah, [a] miracle has happened basically today. The most important thing is no-one has been injured.”
